The one on the left should be Indian Creek, and the one on the right Heritage. Call Indian Creek the Cherokee's and Heritage the Highlanders. Let IC' s mascot be the big Indian at Pratt's in Kingsport and let High Knob (sorry Scott County) be Heritage's mascot.

Problem with that is Virginia already has a Heritage High School,and folks get the schools miked up (ala Patrick Henry)

I agree that the nicknames should be based on our local history. I think one should definitely have something to do with Miners who are our backbone as Indian Dad mentioned.

I dont much care for the Mountaineer/Pioneer/Hilltopper/Miner nonsence. I prefer animal and more traditional mascot names. Bears, Tigers, Rams, ect.

The Man High School Hillbillies.... and their mascot is a billy goat! haha

I'm not against the miners or anything like that.... but if we were really going to pay tribute to our backbone, then we'd have to pay the respects to the people who founded are area, and that's those ole crazy English *******s!
Pikeville's Basketball and now Arena football teams already pay tribute to the miners.
